Kyocera Wireless Corp. Named Climate Wise Energy Star Partner of the Year
SAN DIEGO - July 21, 2003 - Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading manufacturer of CDMA wireless phones, today announced that it was named the Climate Wise Energy Star Partner of the Year by the City of San Diego for its continued commitment to energy conservation programs and support for San Diego's Green Schools Program.
With this award Kyocera Wireless was also categorized as an Environmental Partner, the city's highest environmental honor, achieved by only two businesses in San Diego in 2002. Climate Wise Energy Star Partners are selected on the basis of their achievements in enhancing energy efficiency, preventing pollution, and reducing greenhouse gases, all of which ultimately reduce bottom-line costs.
Kyocera Wireless' rigorous energy efficiency programs saved 931,396 kilowatt hours and an estimated $124,031 in energy costs during 2002. Kyocera also provided invaluable support to San Diego's Green Schools Program, educating students at Mira Mesa High School about how to conduct an energy audit and the impact of energy use in California.
"We're very serious about our role in helping San Diego's next generation of leaders to be environmentally responsible," said Skip Speaks, president and chief executive officer at Kyocera Wireless Corp. "But to have credibility, we have to practice what we preach and the many environmental awards we've earned are proof of our dedication to preserving this beautiful city."
As part of the Climate Wise Energy Star Partner award, Kyocera Wireless Corp. was honored for its public and internal Web sites, which promote awareness of the company's ISO 14001-certified Energy Management System, demonstrate the company's commitment to environmental protection, and solicit feedback from the public and employees for continual improvement.
