Rodney N. Lanthorne is the President and Chairman of the Board at Kyocera Wireless Corp. He also serves as a Director of Kyoto, Japan-based Kyocera Corporation (NYSE: KYO), parent company of the worldwide Kyocera group, and as President of San Diego-based Kyocera International, Inc., the group's North American holding company. In the latter role, Rod leads a group of seven wholly-owned Kyocera subsidiaries, including San Diego-based Kyocera America, Inc., Kyocera Wireless Corp., and Kyocera Telecommunications Research Corp.; Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation, of Vancouver, Washington; Kyocera Solar, Inc., of Scottsdale, Arizona; Kyocera Tycom Corporation, of Irvine, California; and Kyocera Mexicana, S.A. de C.V., of Tijuana, Mexico. Rod also serves on the Boards of Directors of Kyocera Mita America, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary; and majority-owned AVX Corp. (NYSE: AVX).
Rod was introduced to Kyocera in 1976 as a CPA for the accounting firm of Coopers and Lybrand, when he was involved in the initial public offering of Kyocera's American Depository Shares. He joined Kyocera International, Inc. in 1979 as Chief Financial Officer and was named President in 1987. Rod was named as a director of parent company Kyocera Corporation the following year, becoming one of the first Americans to be named as a director of a Japanese public corporation. Rod is a graduate of the University of Kentucky.
